Karime Macías Tubilla, wife of former Veracruz governor Javier Duarte de Ochoa, appears before UK judicial authorities for the extradition process requested by Mexico against him. Macias has an apprehension order that a judge turned him over for alleged payments to phantom companies.
The legal team representing her informed Political Animal macías Tubilla was cited by the British authorities to initiate the extradition process, and in response to that subpoena Macías, who has lived in London for two years, volunteered.

For its part, diplomatic authorities confirmed to the media that Macías Tubilla was formally detained before British judicial bodies, although they did not want to elaborate on the details of their assurance.
It is anticipated that in the coming hours the British authorities will define whether they should be detained or with some different precautionary measures (such as home roots) while the extradition trial is taking place that could last several weeks or months.
“What we hope is that as a voluntary surrender and she will be at the disposal of the authorities to remain free for the duration of the extradition trial,” said one of Macías Tubilla’s lawyers.
Political Animal revealed last August the formal extradition request that Mexico sent to the United Kingdom. It is a 42-page diplomatic document in which our country informs its British counterparts that there is an apprehension order issued against Macías Tubilla since 28 May 2018 for an offence comparable to public age tort fraud.

This apprehension order was the result of an investigation by the Veracruz Prosecutor’s Office in which alleged payments to phantom companies would have been credited during the time she headed the honorary presidency of the State DIF, in the six-year term in which her husband was governor of Veracruz (2010 to 2016).
This medium, in conjunction with Mexicans against Corruption and Impunity, was evident in a journalistic investigation that between 2011 and 2016, the State System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) in Veracruz -which honorally presided over Karime Macías Tubilla — delivered more than 415 million pesos in contracts with 33 ghost companies.
Macías Tubilla arrived in London from mid-2017 where she lives with her three children. The former first lady of Veracruz initiated on her own a process of applying for political asylum by accusing a persecution against her after Javier Duarte was tried and sentenced in Mexico for money laundering.
