translated from Spanish: Diana Gonzalez, the player who dreamed of a women’s league, dies

Diana González Barrera dreamed since she was 8 years old with a women’s soccer league.
“When I was 8 years old I would talk to my dad and say, my dream would be that there would be a league like that of men, but in women, and he would say to me, ‘one day, daughter, someday,” Diana said in an interview for the Women’s League.
That dream was fulfilled last year. Diana arrived at the Club America in July last year and was a pivotal part of the 2018 Apertura, scoring two goals in the final against Tigres, which would add to the eagles’ first title, although an injury did not let her play this season.
“Me since I had in my mind targeted playing in the league always saying I want to play on a winning team,” he said in an interview. “I was given the opportunity to play here and there’s nothing to make me happier right now,” he added.

The 26-year-old died this Friday from health complications from diabetes.
The Club America reported on the death and promptly resigned family and friends.

The club’s manager, Leonardo Cuellar, said in an interview with the portal Mediotiempo.com that Diana died “from a complication, she had diabetes. His painting was aggravated.”
“We’re all in shock, it’s a very sad thing,” the strategist added.
Diana did not play this season due to injury, but was ready to return in the next tournament.

We deeply regret the sensitive passing of Diana Victoria González Barrera, friend and companion, player of our women’s team.
Our condolences to your loved ones.
