The international seminar “Political Current of Latin American Feminism” aims to discuss what role feminism has played in transforming the social, cultural and political spheres Considering the emerging and historical forms that have been raised in their struggles and demands for social change.
The event will have the participation of two international guests who will hold the opening talks. Among them is Veronica Schill, a Chilean-Canadian scholar, professor emeritus at the University of Western Ontario Canada, who has specialized in state, political economy and gender issues. Schill will present the conference: “Feminism, socio-environmental justice and neoliberal democracy: reflections on the limit of a contradictory relationship”.
While the other international guest Paulina de los Reyes, full professor of economic history at Stockholm University, whose research topics cover intersectionality, postcolonial feminism, transcontinental migrations and racism will be presented by the conference on Tuesday, 12 November; “Intersectionality, inequality and power. A challenge for feminism?”
The event will also feature other academics and activists, including the sociologists Kathya Araujo (USACH) and María Emilia Tijoux (FACSO), and the leaders of civil society: Marcela Ríos (UNDP Chile), Emilia Schneider, president of FECH, Marcia Tijero, member of the Study Unit of the National Institute of Human Rights, Francisca Pérez, director of the La Morada Corporation, Daniela López, director of the Nodo XXI Foundation, Julieth Micolta, founder and coordinator of the collective Microsessions Black.
This seminar is organized by the Nucleus of Research in Gender and Society Juliet Kirkwood and the Center for Conflict studies and social cohesion (COES), supported by the vice-rectory of Research and Development of the University of Chile, the Faculty of Sciences (FACSO), the Master in Sociology of Modernization and the Research Network on Intersectionality, Gender and Resistance Practices.
The initiative will start from 9:30 a.m. next Monday 11 and continue on Tuesday, November 12 at the UC Faculty of Social Sciences, located at Ignacio Carrera Pinto 1045.
