The Prosecutor’s Office reported that between Friday, October 18, the day the demonstrations began in the country and, on October 31, opened 1,089 investigations across the country, which involve the same number of victims, for institutional violence.
In total, 766 have been against Carabineros, 58 against the Army, 22 against the IDP and 8 against the Navy, while in 235, a particular organism was not identified.
Of the total crimes investigated, 770 are alleged unlawful attacks, 267 possible abuses against individuals, 24 alleged torture by State agents and 28 possible other crimes, including serious injuries, quasi-crime homicide, homicide and other offenses.
9 cases were opened for alleged acts constituting sexual abuse or rape; 4 would correspond to threats to commit sex crimes and 38 to nudity.
Of the total victims, 858 are men, 220 are women and in 11 cases sex has not been identified. By age, 161 of those are boys, girls or adolescents
Of the 1,089 criminal investigations underway, the largest number of cases is concentrated in the regional prosecutors’ offices of the Biobío (182), Metropolitana Sur (177), Valparaiso (157) and Metropolitana Centro Norte (117).
