During this Saturday the Bolivian Armed Forces came out of the way of the situation in the neighboring country and signaled their position, indicating they will watch for peace. It was Williams Kaliman, commander general of the Bolivian Armed Forces, who – accompanied by the country’s military high command – stepped forward and read a statement in which on behalf of the institution he noted that “We ratify that we will never face the people who we owe and will always watch for peace.” They were also inthiscical to point out that they support “the union between compatriots”, as well as the “coexistence between brothers and sisters and the development of our homeland”. They added that “The current problems generated in the political sphere must be solved in the field of the highest interests of the homeland before irreversible moments come.” Kaliman further stated that uniforms are “totally cohesive under military command, always attached to discipline, order and respect for the Constitution”, for the “defense, security and stability of the state”. Yesterday, the Bolivian government had already indicated that it did not plan to mobilize the military in the face of the situation in the country following the riots in some police stations. The protests in the highland country, both for and against the recent election of Evo Morales, have caused at least three deaths and 383 injuries, according to data from Bolivia’s Ombudsman’s Office.
