translated from Spanish: NGO files complaint against new CNDH owner… at the CNDH

“Have journalists been killed? this is how Rosario Piedra, new holder of the National Commission on Human Rights (CNDH) responded to a reporter’s questioning about the situation of communicators and that this year has been the worst for journalists.
-A pending issue which was denounced by the previous Ombudsman is the lack of freedom of expression. How will you attack this question that has been criticized by the Government?, a reporter questioned.
-“I think where there was a lack of freedom of expression was in the previous six years. And I don’t say it, there are all the journalists killed, missing or intimidated,” Rosario replied.
Reporter: This year has been the worst for journalists.
Rosario: Have journalists been killed?
Reporter: Haven’t you heard about the murder of journalists?
Rosario: I mean, look, I’ve seen, yes, what happened in six-year past and it’s a terrible thing.
After protesting and cries of opposition fraud, Rosario de Piedra said that in this Government migrants are no longer assaulted and the cases of murders of journalists were unaware.

For this response, the non-governmental organization Displaced Journalists of Mexico filed a complaint with the CNDH against its own owner, Rosario Piedra Ibarra.
The answer (have journalists been murdered?), the NGO says, is a violation of the human rights of the families of the communicators killed in Mexico.
“The response provokes a sense of vulnerability, in the face of ignorance of such a stark reality, coming from the same holder of the National Commission on Human Rights, at the same time, it generates uncertainty and fear in those who have been subjected to attacks on their individuals and their families for the always fact of reporting.”
