translated from Spanish: PGJCDMX closes Karen’s case; Inmujeres asks not to lynch her

The investigation folder for the case of Laura Karen Espíndola’s disappearance was closed, “as no evidence could be found that could prove the probable commission of any crime”, reported the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City (PGJCDMX).
In a statement, the PGJCDMX noted that the young woman came to make her statement on Thursday to the facilities of the unit located in Avenida Jardín, mayor Azcapotzalco.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, Laura Karen returned to her home on her own.
Inmujeres and CDMX ask not to “lynch” Karen
After making known videos in which the young woman was observed in a bar the night her family had reported her missing, the headline of the National Institute of Women (Women), Nadine Gasman, overcame the aggressions that have occurred against Karen and asked not to “lynch” her.

“It’s an unwarranted issue, we really have to believe women that we need to protect, and make sure we guarantee their safety,” Grasman said in media interview, according to reports from the newspaper Reforma.
Grasman said the young woman’s family “did what she had to do, which is to start looking for her, report, seek support. Everything else really is misogyny, and not understanding the circumstances of insecurity that women live on the street.”
About leaking the videos, he said that these “should not happen, as people’s privacy must be preserved. We have to believe the women,” and celebrated that Karen came home alive.
For her part, the Secretary of Government of Mexico City, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, defended the actions of the authorities and civil society in the case, given the context of insecurity and violence against women.

Rodriguez indicated that, in general, you have to “investigate as much as possible, it is our obligation and we have to do it, while we know if it is fake news or not. We have to go, as the 911 calls go,” the paper reported.
