So far this year, 1.415 million pesos related to corruption have been blocked, said the head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), Santiago Nieto Castillo.
Participating in the 2019 International Anti-Corruption Day Commemoration, he said that so far this year the unit leading has filed 40 complaints for money laundering linked to corruption issues.
In addition, it has given 27 hearings on cases related to this scourge at administrative headquarters; four cases linked to the process have been prosecuted, and 178 people have been added to the list of corruption-related blockades.

“This has given a total amount of 1.415 million pesos for acts of corruption,” said Nieto Castillo, who stressed that the fight against crime groups is forcibly combating corruption and impunity, and requires political will.
It was urgent to know a pattern of beneficiaries of public and private corruption acts.
“It is essential to know who the ultimate beneficiaries of acts of corruption are, to lift the veil of legal persons to identify who are the beneficiaries of acts of public and private corruption,” he said.
The official underlined the importance of citizens participating in the fight against corruption, of advancing the prevention of this scourge, as the fight against impunity will take place from taking more cases to the courts.
“To the extent that we manage to fulfill this responsibility we will be fulfilling the mandate of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to sweep the stairs from top to bottom, to have a clean house, by virtue of the being the responsibility of all to fulfill this commitment of an international nature.”

For his part, the head of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), Arturo Herrera Gutiérrez, highlighted Mexico’s efforts to eradicate corruption, as well as the need to strengthen payment systems to combat this scourge.
“Through our budget system and our management, about 130 million payments are paid per year. Through the system where the legal affairs of the SAT (Tax Administration Service) take 56,000 trials, each of them can be susceptible to risks in corruption and for this we need to have robust systems that allow us to identify them,” he stressed.
