Morelia, Michoacán.- That a Parliament of Women of Michoacán be held once a year each year, to pay for the search for respect for rights and justice for women, is the proposal of the local Deputy Araceli Saucedo Reyes.
The coordinator of the parliamentary fraction of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) urged the need for Michoacan women to be involved in legislative decision-making for women, and through them, to achieve social change in the state.
Therefore, the proposal is that through Parliament, activists, indigenous women, feminists and generally civil women, make their approaches so that they are brought to the Legislative and/or Executive Branch.
Saucedo Reyes reiterated that the struggle that has gained strength is not a whim of women to seek privileges or a fad.
“Let it be clear that this struggle is not a fad, it is not just a protest on social media to see who can do the most, it is not the whims of women to enjoy more and better privileges. We will not tire until we understand that it is about achieving a better quality of life for each of the women.”
The perredist acknowledged that much of the root of gender-based violence problems is due to the breakdown from society, which has been difficult to compose today, but warned that the struggle will continue since the LXXVI Legislature.
“Zero tolerance for any kind of violence and gender discrimination, we’re clear about that. Violence against women and girls is one of the most devastating, which is exercised in different ways: physical, sexual, psychological and discrimination (…) As much as we reform laws, if society does not understand that we live in a great problem that is generated every day, we will not be able to eradicate gender-based violence until we end the discrimination we suffer within society.”
He therefore called for the education of the new generations to teach them to live in equality, as education was the main element to eliminate discrimination.
