translated from Spanish: Judge dismissed for sexual harassment and nepotism

The Plenary of the Council of the Federal Judiciary (CJF) dismissed and disabled a federal magistrate for 10 years, for sexually harassing 10 women and for hiring the wife of a district judge, for the benefit of that official.
Through a statement, the CJF reported that “the judge also received a penalty and was suspended for his lack of professionalism and improper exercise of office.”

“The position of zero tolerance of the plenary of the CJF and its president, Minister Arturo Zaldívar, has been blunt about cases of gender equality and non-violence, as well as against nepotism within the Judiciary,” the Council of the Judiciary said.
According to the CJF, the resolution of the case was given in full compliance with the provisions of the Constitution and the applicable laws, and in compliance with the principle of presumption of innocence.
“The fight against gender-based violence and nepotism are two of the main axes of the CJF, as they represent a cancer for society that, at the outset, must be fought from the trench of those public servants who swore to ensure justice and constitutional values,” he said.

As part of the actions to combat corruption within the CJF, the Plenary of the Council also approved last December a plan to combat nepotism, which envisages the development of a pattern of workers’ family relations and a mailbox to denounce this practice.
