translated from Spanish: Three killed and 20 injured in terrorist attack in Somalia

A car bomb targeting a group of Turkish contractors exploded on Saturday (18.01.2020) in Afgoye, a town of 80,000 inhabitants located northeast of the capital, Mogadishu. At least three people reportedly died in the attack, Somali soldiers were reportedly injured, and twenty others were injured, according to the first reports.
While it is unknown who was behind the terrorist action, police and neighbours assured that members of the radical group Al Shabab on Friday tried to attack the town, but were repelled. “A high-speed suicide car bomb entered an area where Turkish engineers and Somali police were having lunch,” Agent Nur Ali told Reuters.
Somali government spokesman Ismail Mukhtar Oronjo said it is “very early to say how many dead left the attack, but what we know is that there are several, including soldiers, and at least 20 people were injured.” Oronjo warned that this figure could rise in the coming hours. Bashir Ahmed, a police officer in Afgoye, claimed that there were three of the deaths.
Turkey reports casualties
“We heard a huge explosion and then saw a cloud of smoke. Before the attack, several Turkish engineers and heavily armed Somali security forces were at the scene,” said Farah Abdullah, a witness. “We saw that there were people being moved, but I don’t know if they were injured or dead,” added Abdullah, who runs a place in Afgoye.
The Turkish agency Anadolu noted that there were four Turkish employees, employees of a construction company, who were injured in the attack. All of them were transferred to a hospital, according to information provided by the Turkish embassy. Since the 2011 famine, Ankara and Mogadishu have strengthened their ties, and turkish professionals are now helping to build roads in the African country.
