Morelia, Michoacán.- The commissioner for security in Morelia, Julisa Suárez Bucio, announced that an agreement was reached with transport organizations to get women who take the Pedregal and Prados Verdes truck routes from the Valladolid square.
According to the civil servant, the agreement was reached after a meeting with the transport leaders of both routes, Daniel Guillen Cortés and José Rodríguez Altamirano, who told her that providing free passage to women is a recognition action to the important work they do.
The measure will be valid only and exclusively at the stop of the Valladolid square, since there they have greater control over the number of people who get on each truck.
Suarez Bucio indicated that the Morelia Police are meeting regularly with the carriers because they started a program called “Safe Transport”, which consists of municipal agents accompanying the transport units along the way and this has made it possible to increase women’s safety by inhibiting behaviors that violate them.
Finally, he mentioned that the meeting also addressed the issue of protection against women and began to generate protocols to cater for passengers who were harassed or harassed by someone within their units.
