Health authorities reported on Saturday that Mexico is already in a critical period because of an accelerated increase in COVID-19 cases.
“The only way to reduce transmission today is to stay in our homes, massively, all, and for a stipulated period of one month (…) Cases will continue to increase and there will be severe cases and deaths, but the rate of contagion can be slowed,” said Undersecretary for Health Prevention and Promotion Hugo Lopez-Gatell.

He indicated that only 30% stayed home even though there was a government provision that applied to everyone.
Hugo Lopez-Gatell argued that he is the last moment of opportunity, where the curve goes from a slow transmission to an accelerated one.
“This is the last chance we have to contain the situation. We are already in a period of an exponential and accelerated increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, but we still have the opportunity to stop it,” he said.

“To the extent that we achieve massive measures of immobilization, the reduction of work activities and the concentration of people, we will have a benefit for all. The benefit is to slow the spread,” he said.
16 dead, 848 positive cases
Health authorities reported that there are already 16 deaths in the country due to COVID-19.
Deaths are recorded in Mexico City (7); Durango (1); Hidalgo (1); Jalisco (3); Michoacan (1); Quintana Roo (1), and San Luis Potosí, (2).
Health records 848 people with the virus and 2,623 suspected cases, which are under investigation.
