translated from Spanish: WHO Director Reveals Has Been Killed

Geneva.- The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, revealed today that in the last three months, during which time his entity has led the global fight against coronavirus, he has received threats of deaths and attacks of various kinds, including racist. “Three months ago I received personal attacks, some racists and to be honest I am proud of my color. I have even received death threats, but I don’t care at all Why would I care if people are dying, if we are losing lives every minute?” said the head of Ethiopian origin.

Tedros, a microbiologist who was his country’s minister of health and foreign affairs, said that one of the initial attacks took place in Taiwan and that the government, in the midst of the coronavirus crisis in Asia, did not de-mar him from these aggressions. At a virtual press conference accompanied by two senior officials coordinating WHO’s response to the pandemic, the Director-General argued that as long as the attacks are against him he does not pay attention to them, but that he feels great sadness when they are directed against the community or the African continent.
When it’s personal to me, I’m no better than anyone, but when an entire community is insulted, then enough is enough, I can’t tolerate that,” he said in a quiet tone.

He added that WHO “does not do politics” and that its mission is to “care about the poor and the vulnerable” in these times when the whole world is involved in the crisis caused by coronavirus. “WHO will do everything it can not to regret anything, but along the way we will be wrong, like any human being,” he said, recalling that there are and will be assessments of the right measures and mistakes that the organization may have made since the appearance of the coronavirus was detected.
