translated from Spanish: Chile’s film “White in White” is winner of Toulouse’s Cinélatino festival

The film, co-produced by Chile, Spain and Germany, reflects the domination of white settlers over natives in Tierra de Fuego in the early twentieth century, with actor Alfredo Castro in the starring role.
“White in White” tells the story of how the patron’s future wife, just a girl, becomes the obsession of a photographer, played by Alfredo Castro. Trying to capture its beauty, photography sneaks up and betrays the power that dominates the territory, when he is discovered he is punished, for which he is stripped of his privileges. He cannot escape and ends up being a partaker and accomplice of a society that coexists with the genocide of the Selknam natives.

Some Beasts
Chile’s “Some Beasts”, directed by Jorge Riquelme Serrano, won the CCAS Award, sponsored by the energy company EDF; and the Brazilian “Helen”, by André Meirelles Collazi, which is awarded by the railroads’ guild.

The fictional feature film ‘Some Beasts’ tells the story of a family that enthusiastically disembarks on an uninhabited island on Chile’s southern coast with the dream of building a tourist hotel on site. When the man who crossed them from the continent disappears, the family is imprisoned from the island. With cold, without water and without certainties, the moods and good coexistence begin to dilute, exposing the beasts that the family hides.
Other award-winning films
In the category of documentaries, they were also awarded “Map of Latin American Dreams”, a co-production of Argentina, Cuba, the United States, Mexico and Norway, directed by the Argentine Martín Weber; and “Sete anos em maio”, by The Brazilian Affonso Uuch.
In the short film, the Mexican “La Bruja de Phosphorante Paseante”, by Sofia Carrillo, and the Venezuelan “Antilope” got the main distinctions.
The award “Cinéma under construction 25”, awarded by the jury of Cinélatino and the Film Festival of San Sebastián (Spain), was for the Mexican “50 or two whales are located on the beach”, by Jorge Cuchi, who also took the Cine+ award, which offers its distribution in this specialized channel.
The exhibition dedicated to Latin cinema in Toulouse, originally planned from 20 to 29 March, was forced to cancel its 32nd edition by the confinement measures in France, but the selection was finally able to go ahead with videoconferences in which the members of the jury chose their record.
