translated from Spanish: WHO warns that pandemic is “far from over” to end and “much remains to be done”

The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has warned that the pandemic of the new coronavirus is still “far from complete” and has commented that “much remains to be done”, especially in the poorest and most vulnerable areas.
Therefore, recalling that many countries in Europe are beginning to lift some restrictions, Tedros underlined the importance of further detecting, isolating and treating all Covid-19 cases, as well as monitoring the contacts they have maintained.
“But the pandemic is far from over. WHO remains concerned about growing trends in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and some Asian countries. As in all regions, cases and deaths are not reported in many countries in these regions due to low testing capacity,” he has apostilled.
That said, the WHO Regional Director has reported that a second Strategic Response Preparedness Plan will soon be launched, which will capture an estimate of the resources needed to carry out an upcoming global response to the virus.
However, Tedros recalled that globally, WHO has shipped millions of personal protective equipment items to 105 countries and laboratory supplies to more than 127 countries. However, he has reported that they will send many millions more in the coming weeks.
“We have a long way to go and a lot of work to do. WHO is committed to doing all it can to support all countries. But political leadership is also essential, including the vital role of parliaments. National unity is the foundation of global solidarity. Solidarity, solidarity, solidarity: that is what we will say every day,” he has settled.
