The daughter of María Elena Ferral, a journalist killed in Veracruz, suffered an attack on Sunday and said she was unharmed thanks to the intervention of elements that take care of her safety.
“Today at 10:40 a.m., I was the victim of an attack in which my life was endangered,” María Fernanda De Luna Ferral, who is director general of the Portal Quinto Poder De Veracruz, said in a letter.
“The attack was recorded in the Community of Galeana, in the municipality of Gutiérrez Zamora, when we were heading to the state capital, coming from the city of Poza Rica, when a black Suburban-type van gave us range and fired several times at the vehicle in which it was traveling.
Thanks to the delivery and determination of the elements that are in charge of my security, those who repelled the attack which allowed us to escape from my assailants, towards the Barrels breach,” he added.

In her message, Maria Fernanda demanded that the authorities clarify the murder of her mother, which occurred on 30 March last, “that those responsible may be behind bars, for I fear for my life and that of my close family”.
On 7 May, in reporting on progress in the investigation, the Veracruz Prosecutor’s Office indicated that María Elena Ferral had been killed for her journalistic work and that six people had already been arrested, out of the 11 against which an arrest warrant was turned.
