translated from Spanish: Sinaloa remains below average in job loss

Culiacan, Sinaloa.-The health contingency of coronavirus in the country, has brought with the closure of companies as a measure of prevention of the spread of contagion, a considerable loss of employment throughout Mexico, and Sinaloa is no exception, however, for the third consecutive month the state remains below the national average in terms of job growth. As of May 31, 2020, according to official information from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), 19 million 583 thousand 170 jobs are registered, of these, 86.7 percent are permanent and 13.3 percent are possible, statistics that, in recent years, have remained relatively constant. However, as a result of the effects of the health emergency, there was a monthly decrease of 344 thousand 526 in May, equivalent to a monthly rate of -1.7 percent nationwide. As a result, the decrease in employment from January to May 2020 is 838 thousand 272 posts, of which 70.0 per cent were permanent employment, resulting in a decrease of 799 thousand posts in the last twelve months, equivalent to an annual rate of -3.9 per cent loss of employment.

On the other hand, the sectors with annual growth in jobs are agricultural with 3.5%, social and communal services with 2.7% and communications and transport with 0.9%, with only Tabasco and Colima recording a positive annual variation during May. In the case of Sinaloa, for the third month in a row in which the loss of employment has been considerable nationally due to the effects of the pandemic, the state remains below the national average in loss of employment, since during May there was a 1.2 percent decrease, this thanks to the large number of jobs associated with the primary activities that continued to work to be essential , such as agriculture, livestock and fishing. In the case of the economic perception of jobs, as of May 31, 2020, the base wage for contributions of workers insured to IMSS reached 408.0 pesos. This salary represents a nominal annual increase of 8.1 per cent, which is the highest recorded for a month in May of the last ten years and, since January 2019, the base contribution salary has recorded nominal annual growth of more than 6.0 per cent.
