In the months of the epidemic, from March to June, Mexico lost 1 million 113,677 formal jobs, according to data released this Sunday by the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).
However, the number of jobs lost during the pandemic has been declining. In March 130 thousand 593 were lost, in April the figure was 555 thousand 247 – the highest figure – and then in May 344 thousand 526 and in June of 83,311.
Taking stock of the entire semester, considering that in January and February registered jobs were created with the IMSS, it is obtained that the country recorded a fall from January to June of -921 thousand 583 jobs.

5) ? In the first 19 months of the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador 958 thousand 67 formal jobs have been eliminated. ? ??? ♂️?? ? This compares this figure with the first months of previous six-year years.

“In the last twelve months there was a decrease of 868,807 (eight hundred and sixty-eight thousand eight hundred seven) places, equivalent to an annual rate of -4.3%,” IMSS noted in its newsletter.
“The sectors with annual growth in jobs are agricultural with 3.5% (three point five per cent), social and community services with 2.3% (two point three percent) and electricity with 0.1% (zero point one percent). By federal entity, Tabasco, Michoacán and Baja California record a positive annual variation during June,” he added.
In June this year, compared to 2019, the state with the highest drop in formal jobs registered with IMSS was Quintana Roo, with -22.9%.
In terms of sectors, the highest drop in jobs in June was construction.
The Institute also noted that, as of June 30, 2020, the base contribution salary for IMSS insured workers amounted to $407.3 pesos.
“This salary represents a nominal annual increase of 8.1% (eight point one percent), which is the highest recorded for a month in June of the last ten years and, since January 2019, the base contribution salary recorded nominal annual growth of more than 6.0%.”
On May 24th the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, gave an estimate that with the COVID-19 epidemic the country will end up losing a total of 1 million jobs.
“But I also want to say that we already have a plan for the recovery and creation of new jobs, 2 million new jobs,” he said.
