translated from Spanish: UNIR: movement created by MP Marcelo Díaz joins the Broad Front

UNIR, the political movement created by the deputy Marcelo Díaz, former Socialist Party, will join the Broad Front as a collective. That’s what they announced this Thursday.
“The process of strengthening the opposition’s articulation begins at a time when the government and its coalition are in deep crisis following the results in voting results of the Draft Planned Fund Withdrawal bill in the House of Deputies and Deputies,” they said from the Broad Front through a public statement.
The alliance seeks to “be the protagonist in the constituent process that begins in October and the election challenges of next year”.
Lorena Fries, coordinator of UNIR, appreciated the work that has been doing Democratic Revolution, Social Convergence, Commons and the Liberal Party, “in the line of moving towards the construction of a fairer and un abusing Chile. (…) We will try to contribute with our work to strengthen the coalition,” he said.
Julio Salas, also coordinator of UNIR, added that this incorporation “responds to the need to strengthen today a political alliance capable of embodying the project of profound transformations that society demands”.
From the Broad Front, Javiera Toro, the president of Comunes, appreciated the step that her colleagues who, coming from the socialist experience, are taking “have shown commitment to overcoming the politics of transition. (…) It is part of a broader process for the consolidation of a broad and diverse antineoliberal alternative, capable of taking care of the challenges that society has been facing since October.”
Catalina Pérez, president of the Democratic Revolution, added that “the constituent process and the recovery of the post-pandemic country require alternative views from the economic, social and political way to leave behind the inequality of this system”.
“We celebrate that UNIR has come together with those of us who have a country vision and a political project that we are building together. Now, with more breadth and unity, we will continue to bid to build an antineoliberal alternative that gives certain answers to the emergencies that today afflict thousands of families,” added Gael Yeomans, President of Social Convergence.
Luis Felipe Ramos, president of the Liberal Party, argued to close that “the growth and strengthening of the coalition is a step in the direction of coordinating the opposition with a view to the challenges that Chile has, at one of the most complex moments”.
