Since 2015, FICValdivia and the Valdivia Film Promotion Centre (CPCV) have performed a special activity in the winter season with the best of national cinematography. The last two years this event has moved to Rio Bueno and La Unión. This year, due to the health crisis facing our country and the world, FICValdivia in Winter will move from cinemas to the online platform Play FICValdivia.
With free access for 24 hours, the documentary film Dreams of Ice (1993) by the prominent Chilean director Ignacio Aguero can be seen from Wednesday, August 5 at 6 p.m., until Thursday at the same time.
After the end of the function, a conversation will be held with the film’s director and Raúl Camargo, director of FICValdivia.
Dreams of Ice (1993), based on the transfer of an iceberg from Antarctica to Spain to be presented in the Chilean pavilion of the Universal Exhibition of Seville in 1992, tells the story of a man who begins a boat trip from the southernmost confines of the ocean to southern Spain, advancing along the coast of Latin America.
“This year, due to the health contingency, we have had to adapt our face-to-face functions including our already traditional seasonal festivals. In that line we decided that our autumn and winter contests were a great opportunity to relieve great secret works of Chilean cinema, i.e. films that despite being incredible are rather unknown even by the film audience. Following the exhibition already made by Eloy in FICValdivia in Autumn, on this occasion we will offer Ice Dreams by Ignacio Agúero, a film very ahead of the joint fiction, documentary, travel diary and fantastic cinema, making it a cult piece that is essential to remove from the secret area in which it is located”.
This seasonal activity is possible thanks to the financing of the Other Collaborating Institutions Program of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage.
