Veracruz.- In the midst of a deployment of naval forces, castrenses and federal agents, a police chief and six of his officers were arrested on Saturday for allegedly linked to organized crime in the eastern Mexican state of Veracruz.La arrest of commander “Guillermo N” of the Municipal Police of Alamo, a powerful economic region for its production of export citrus, happened after an imposing operation to manage to control organized crime that plagues the area.

Agents of the Ministry of Public Security of Veracruz, in coordination with the Mexican Army, Mexican Navy and the National Guard, mounted road restraining and surveillance in that region of the north of the entity.As part of the investigations and action to restore order, the seven agents were arrested, among them the commander, for alleged links with Agustín “N”, alias “El Guty” or commander “Jaguar” of the violent criminal group Shadow.They are also linked as responsible for different crimes such as kidnapping and extortion, by the hand of the aforementioned criminal group, who grew in recent years in the north of that entity. According to an official report, at the time of capture, the police chief acknowledged receiving large sums of money as bribes, from the “Guty”.

In both the agents in his command, identified as Daniel Antonio “N”, Martín “N”, Filiberto Alejandro “N”, Pedro “N”, José Israel “N” and Francisco Javier “N”, would have participated in crimes perpetrated in that area. Detainees were secured long and short weapons, magazines, useful cartridges, tactical vests, drugs and vehicles, among others. Veracruz contributes 2.3 million tonnes of citrus produced over an area of about 165,000 hectares. The municipality of Alamo is the main producer of citrus with a volume of 741,000 tonnes, representing 30% of state production. In recent years, however, producers have been bese-besisted by organized crime through extortion.
