The candidates are Claudia Morales, jalisco’s wixárika; Olga Santillán, tepehuana from southern Durango and Monica González, from the Cucapá town of Baja California.
Through social media, President López Obrador stated that “they are authentic representatives of pride, greatness and deep Mexico.”

The Conapred has been undyed since last June, when Monica Maccise, former president of the autonomous body, surrendered her resignation.
Maccise submitted his resignation after the Ministry of the Interior asked him to separate from the position, in the face of criticism from López Obrador, who suggested the agency disappear.

The president’s statements arose after the controversy sparked by the invitation of driver Chumel Torres to a forum on discrimination and racism organized by the Council, which led to López Obrador saying that he did not even know Conapred existed.
In announcing that he would accept Monica Maccise’s resignation, the president detailed that he would propose to a woman representing the indigenous peoples to preside over the Conapred, “because the most humiliated in Mexico and those who have suffered the most racism in Mexico have been the indigenous.”
“To name people with convictions who are really against racism and discrimination,” he said.
