translated from Spanish: Why In Carabineros they don’t learn

Nearly a year after the Social Outburst on 18 October, we are again aware of acts of carabinieri that deserve only repudiation from all political sectors.
In the midst of the repression in The Plaza Dignidad (Baquedano Square) on October 2, we see police forces using disproportionate force against protesters. This time, from the edge of the Pius Nono Bridge, a young man is thrown to the Mapocho River bed by a Special Forces carabinieri. There is no longer the use of balinese or tear bombs here, but the physical strength to throw it from high altitude causing serious injury to a 16-year-old. The reactions of the high command, again, have been to deny the participation of the members of the institution, but the images that have been known to the public immediately denies their version.
In recent years, the current government has endorsed by action or omission the acting of the institution and has dedicated it to emphasizing individual responsibilities and characterizing these facts as isolated. But the administration can no longer insist on this discourse, but, quite on the contrary, it must consider that a pattern of conduct is noticed and, therefore, it is necessary to assert the administrative responsibility resting on the high command.
It is not sustainable for the government and the high command of Carabineros to maintain a policy of denial about the seriousness of the repetition of these facts and a struggle with the Office of the Office of the Office of the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, which seeks to ensure that the functioning of all public distributions is respectful of human rights.
It is no longer just a matter of reforms to the institution, or of accepting the technical support offered by the European Union for the proper management of public order under international human rights standards. This is a genuine commitment to enforce human rights. Otherwise, without this commitment, it not only loses its own institution, but also the government, whose discourse will eventually lack all credibility. And ultimately, if immediate action is not taken, we lose all the people who live in this territory.
