translated from Spanish: Iztapalapa to close its pantheons on Day of the Dead to avoid crowds

The pantheons of the mayoralty Iztapalapa, in Mexico City, will remain closed during the commemoration of the Day of the Dead as a preventive measure before the pandemic by COVID-19.
The authorities reported that the measure is to avoid agglomerations in the 10 pantheons of demarcation, which each year on these dates receive the visit of at least 200 thousand people.
Mayor Clara Brugada noted that they will deploy an operation in the pantheons with public servants from different areas to explain to people that the reason for the closure arrives.
In addition, elements of the Auxiliary Police will keep an eye on the cemeteries.
“We are going to commemorate in our house only with those we live with, without a family invitation, we will not go to expose ourselves to cemeteries,” Brugada said.
The mayor also asked the young population not to throw the traditional parties that are organized on the occasion of the date.
“The important thing is that there are no family or friends’ meetings and less massive ones because contagions occur there that then expand to the family, mainly to older adults or people with chronic degenerative diseases,” he said.
He recalled that a significant percentage of the population is asymptomatic but can spread the virus, so meetings, even small, pose a risk.
According to the mayor in Iztapalapa, there has been a downward trend in the transfer of the virus since last June, but it is important to continue to abide by prevention measures so that there is no regrowth.
Among the pantheons that will close the doors are the Civil de San Nicolás Tolentino and the Civil de San Lorenzo Tezonco, two of the largest in Mexico City.
