Every 18 October, World Day of Protection of Nature is celebrated in commemoration of the letter sent by Juan Domingo Perón in 1972: “The suicide march that humanity has undertaken through environmental and biosphere pollution, the dilapidation of natural resources, the unprecedented growth of the population and the overestimation of technology”. At the time, the General was already in exile in Madrid and called for a reversal of the situation of nature with a letter he sent on 16 March to Kurt Waldheim, then Secretary General of the United Nations.
Today, the aim of this celebration is to promote environmental responsibility, to preserve all that nature offers Planet Earth such as natural goods, ecosystem services, landscape diversity. In this area, the United Nations adopted a plan in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and highlights several objectives that involve a common and universal commitment, such as:
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its effects.
Sustainably conserve and use of oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
Sustainably manage forests, fight desertification, stop and reverse land degradation and stop biodiversity loss
