A year ago, three vans in which women and 14 children of the LeBarón family traveled, were attacked in the mountains on the boundaries between the states of Chihuahua and Sonora, leaving as a balance nine people dead, three women and six minors.
According to the chronology of the events disseminated by the government of Mexico, members of the LeBarón family were ambushed around 13:00 hours by an armed group, which set fire to one of the vans with the passengers inside.
In the case, 11 people have been arrested, although they are investigated for organized crime. There is only one person prosecuted for qualified homicide in Mexico, there is also one detainee in the United States, according to Adrián LeBarón.

Just on 3 October President Andrés Manuel López Obrador met with the LeBarón, Miller and Langford families. During his meeting with the representative, he was asked for compensation as part of the damage repair.
Activist Bryan LeBarón proposed that this compensation be part of the support the LeBarón community will donate to people at risk of being unprotected from the elimination of trusts for human rights defenders, journalists and victims.
