Tijuan lawyer Sandra Esquer was abducted on Wednesday, November 4 at her home in Playas de Rosarito, a neighboring municipality in Tijuana, Baja California, federal authorities confirmed.
Esquer is a human rights defender and journalist, and until now it is known that that day she was forging her home by armed men, aboard several vehicles, according to the representative of the Secretariat of Public Security and Federal Citizen Protection, Isaiah Bertín Sandoval.

Esquer has litigated free speech cases in Baja California, in partnership with article 19, and is currently director of the Baja California Center for Technical Defenders for Human Rights.
Sandra Esquer’s abduction is already investigated by the State Attorney General’s Office, after 24 hours of the events.
Article 19 said of the case that “it is urgent to act as quickly as possible to achieve the lifely return of Sandra Esquer. The former co-administrator of this organization was stolen from her residence in Rosarito, Baja California, by armed subjects yesterday. Sandra Esquer, a criminal lawyer, collaborated on ARTICLE 19 as an independent consultant between 2013 and 2018, supporting the monitoring of legal processes and the delivery of workshops for Baja California journalists.”
Because of this closeness, the organization required the Baja California Attorney’s Office to “grant precautionary measures for the protection of the lawyer’s family.”

According to the mission of the Advocacy Center led by Sandra Esquer, the association is dedicated to providing support “through technical advocacy, in cases where it has ruled abuse of authority and torture”.
The Zeta Weekly reported that “in June of this year, the lawyer reported the deprivation of liberty of a citizen named Jesús Antonio Márquez Verdugo, who was allegedly elements of the State Security and Investigation Guard raided her home located in the vicinity of Tijuana. The complaint was transmitted on the agency’s Facebook page.”
Another case litigated by Sandra Esquer Montoya, reports the weekly, “it was when in 2015 it took the matter of citizen Adrián Vázquez who was confused by the authority with Gonzalo Inzunza Inzunza “Macho Prieto” one of the operators of the Sinaloa Cartel. The victim was imprisoned and tortured.”
