Writer-researcher Beatriz Gutiérrez Muller issued a warning to Twitter following the passage of the Olympia Act in the Senate of the Republic.
Through the social network itself, Gutierrez Muller accused the platform of being “indifferent to cyberbullying against women”.
He further pointed out to Twitter not to act against “thousands of paid accounts” that incite hatred, defamation, smear and violence.
Unanimously, with 87 votes in favor, the Senate of the Republic passed the Olympic Act last Thursday to criminalize crimes related to cyberbullying.
In particular, those who broadcast intimate and sexual content of others without their consent will be punished with up to six years in prison.
The opinion voted by senators typifies as digital violence “any intentional action taken through the use of information and communication technologies, which exposes, distributes, disseminates, displays, transmits, commercializes, offers, exchanges or shares” images, audios or videos of sexual intimate content of a person “without their consent, without their approval or without their authorization”.
