Mexico City authorities arrested three people causing car crashes to assault the drivers involved.
The Secretariat of Capital Security reported that the events occurred in the ex ejidos Viejos colony of Santa Ursula Coapa, Mayor Coyoacán, at the height of the Del Hueso road, where a woman and two men intimidated, assaulted and stole the belongings of a motorist.
The person concerned stated that the detainees were driving on the Tlalpan road in a white vehicle, with plates from Morelos state, when they braked untimely in front of him to cause it to hit them.
After the crash, the motorist got out of his unit and called his insurance agency to report the claim, however, all three people got out of the other car and demanded an amount of money not to wait for the insurance adjuster.
When he refused, the two subjects threatened him with a firearm, while the woman got in his car to steal any valuables.
At the time, SSC-CDMX officers patrolling the area noticed the fact and saw that one of the subjects was carrying a gun, so they approached to assist the attacked driver.
Officers managed to disarm and detain the assailants and put the victim to safety.
According to the authorities, the apprehended are a 19-year-old woman and two men 57 and 25 years old, the latter being the one carrying the firearm.
In addition to the arrests, the police carried out a review of the car where the alleged criminals were travelling and secured them cash and 15 useful cartridges.
The three persons, the firearm, cartridges, money and vehicle were made available to the Public Prosecutor’s Office where their legal status will be determined.
In a statement, SSC-CDMX these types of crimes are becoming more frequent in the capital and that its modus operandi is known as ‘montachoques’. Criminals often cause the crash and then assault and demand an amount of money in exchange for not causing damage to the cars or those involved.
In view of this, the authorities have implemented special operations in the areas with the highest reports of such crimes.
