translated from Spanish: Government announces reopening of borders after pandemic closure: negative result of PCR test will be required

The President of the Republic, Sebastián Piñera, announced today that from 00:00 hrs. this Monday, November 23, Chile will enable, progressively, the opening of borders through Santiago Airport, which will allow the entry of foreigners, who must meet a number of requirements, which were detailed by the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Gloria Hutt; the head of Economics, Development and Tourism, Lucas Palacios, and the Chancellor, Andrés Allamand.
The MTT holder noted that all foreign persons entering, regardless of the country of origin, must carry three documents: the Affidavit for Travellers form that is available in www.c19.cl, a negative result of a PCR test that is not more than 72 hours old from sampling to boarding the flight, and health insurance covering Covid-19-associated benefits.”
In addition, he explained that these requirements would be permanent during the high season. “During the first two weeks of this opening, foreigners entering the country from WHO-qualified countries as ‘high risk’ must remain quarantined for 14 days. This measure has to do with the graduality of the plan and the white running of the traceability system which will allow for a more complete opening from 8 December.”
The reopening plan maintains the traceability of travelers, to identify possible outbreaks on time. This is that all those who enter the country will be subject to a Traveller Surveillance Period within 14 days of their entry and will have to inform their location and health conditions daily via a link that will arrive via email.
It is important to clarify that borders have never been closed to Chileans and resident foreigners. The entry conditions for them are: mandatory quarantine of 14 days, from which they can be exempted with a negative result from a PCR test, the Affidavit of Travellers and accept entry to the Period of Travel Surveillance. Those who do not bring PCRs from abroad can be tested in Chile and if it is negative, they can be exempted from quarantine.
