Through a statement, Judge Vargas Valdez expressed his “desire to collaborate with the authority to clarify the facts” and stressed that he is at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and able to provide any evidence to prove his estate before and during his commission as a magistrate.
This heritage, he noted, “has been stated in the annual estate statements he has filed as a public official, where the congruence between income and expenses is evident.”
On November 10, the Reform newspaper reported that the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Ministry of Finance filed a complaint against the president of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judiciary of the Federation (TEPJF) for illicit enrichment.
According to Reforma, Vargas spent 36 million pesos more than his tax-declared income in six years. The difference with his income would have been 19 million 743 thousand pesos.

On this information, the magistrate indicated that these journalistic notes “have been disseminated with the desire to damage his reputation, confuse economic developments during the years in which he was not a public servant but a postulant lawyer with the period in which he has served as a magistrate in the High Chamber”.
“In this sense, Judge Vargas Valdez argues that he will demonstrate his acting attached to the law at all times and that his family estate is the product of the effort and professional merit of two people who have worked honestly for more than twenty years,” he said in the statement.
With information from Reforma.
