translated from Spanish: Spanish laboratory predicts obesity with animal method

A Spanish laboratory has disclosed that a model has been made that can help predict obesity. This model is based on prediction with models of pigs since the digestive system of humans and these animals are similar. The study was conducted by the laboratory of Spanish origin, Ordesa, which is dedicated to the manufacture of nutrition, health and wellness products and published in the journal The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry.

This study uses pork to check the risk factors of a high calorie diet at the onset of obesity. The study fed prepuberal pigs on a standard diet and another group with a high calorie diet for 70 days. (Read also: This is the doctor who can help you if you’re obese) It was found that the animals were fed a diet called “cafeteria” high in sugars and fats, these animals showed a weight gain, a 13 per year increase in adiposity, increased blood triglycerides, cholesterol and insulin resistance.

Following this study it was determined that the pathological interaction between energy intake and the development of obesity can be established and this research has been taken for the development of products that may slow the trend towards obesity in humans. We will be able to develop different ingredients such as protein hydrolysates, prebiotics, probiotics or lipid components, which could be used in the future development of nutritional solutions. The goal is to better modulate resilience to different types of diseases and help prevent pathologies, including obesity,” says José Antonio Moreno, researcher at Laboratorios Ordesa. Since 1975, obesity has nearly tripled worldwide. In 2016, more than 1900 million adults age 18 and older were overweight, of whom more than 650 million were obese. Overweight and obesity are defined as an abnormal or excessive buildup of fat that can be harmful to health.
