translated from Spanish: FGR accuses Governor Cowhead of Organized Crime

The Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR) filed an application for a declaration of origin against the governor of Tamaulipas, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, for the likely commission of organized crime offences, operations with resources of illicit origin and equated tax fraud.
The application was published on social media by Deputy Moisés Ignacio Mier, Chairman of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) and coordinator of the Morena parliamentary group.

It was submitted by the Specialized Unit in Investigation of Operations with Illicit Origin And Counterfeiting or Currency Alteration Resources, who noted that the application will be ratified at 12:00 hours on February 25th.
On the case, Mr Mier Velazco detailed that in past months, individuals filed a complaint for illicit enrichment for more than 951 million pesos. As a result of this complaint, the Financial Intelligence Unit and the Public Prosecutor’s Office integrated the research folder and have been able to prove that between April and December 2019 financial triangulations were made that reported revenues of 42 million pesos of a front company that has no employees, capital or history of tax returns, called TC12.
This company would have received resources in turn from RC, whose partners are declared suspected of illegally sourced operations in the United States, thus setting up crimes of organized crime, money laundering and tax fraud, as well as illicit enrichment.
Federal authorities consulted by Political Animal indicated that the FIU has filed a total of 3 formal complaints against Cowhead with the FGR. Two of them before SEIDO on 28 July 2020 and 27 November 2020. And a third before the Corruption Prosecutor’s Office on January 22, 2021.
“A political onslaught is orchestrated”
About the FGR’s request, the governor noted that Morena leaked an “alleged accusation” against her.
“Again the factional use of justice where there is no crime. He orchestrated a political onslaught,” he said, and announced that he will wait to be notified to have details of the accusation against him and set his position.
“I’ve never broken the law. I will defend myself against any outrage,” he concluded.

Brunette leaks an alleged accusation against me. Again the factional use of justice where there is no crime. A political onslaught is orchestrated. I will wait to be notified to have details and fix my position. I’ve never broken the law. I’ll defend myself against any outrage.

Last August, the FGR’s Specialized Subrpocurate in Organized Crime Research (SEIDO) initiated an investigative folder against García Cabeza de Vaca for alleged operations with illicit resources from drug trafficking.
The FGR reported that after 10 months of follow-up to the governor, and in collaboration with federal and U.S. government intelligence institutions, it obtained wiretaps indicating that the representative could have benefited from alleged proceeds from organized crime.
In addition, the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Ministry of Finance provided the record with evidence for alleged illicit enrichment, diversion of public resources and tax fraud.
