translated from Spanish: Edomex maintains zero rejection target of COVID-19 patients

One year after the health emergency was decreed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and despite being the second largest entity with the highest number of cases and deaths, the State of Mexico has complied with the policy of zero hospital rejections.
This has been made possible by coordination between state and federal authorities, said the director of the Mexican Social Security Institute, Zoé Robledo, who added that on the part of the Mexican government “there was never silence, there was communication”.
Robledo recalled that when the New Normality Platform was implemented, in the period 2020 with the highest number of contagions and hospitalizations, three sectors of the economy, automotive industry, mining and construction were opened in the State of Mexico, without which this will mean outbreaks in the workplace, “only the leading institution in terms of occupational health, from its Directorate of Economic and Social Benefits, could make it possible”.
Meanwhile, Mexico State Health Secretary Gabriel O’Chea Cuevas appreciated the accompaniment and coordinated work to address the pandemic, “for all that we have shared, everything we have lived together, resolved together”.
The state official recognized health personnel and the various categories that have been on the front line in the face of the pandemic, who with their sense of duty achieved favorable results in the recovery of the population, because “a health team makes a hospital and everyone in their work makes this possible”.
On Tuesday, March 23, a report of activities of IMSS representations in the State of Mexico was presented in both the west and east of the entity.
The institute’s representative in the west, Miralda Aguilar Patraca, detailed that 18,442 workers have collaborated to make possible the policy of zero rejections of COVID-19 patients in the area.
To this end, he said, coordinated work with the government of the State of Mexico to implement the strategy for the conversion of 647 beds into five hospitals and the construction of a Temporary Care Center to tackle the pandemic.
In addition, operation of Zone General Hospital (HGZ) No. 252 was launched in Atlacomulco and the Temporary Care Center in Naucalpan, with 40 beds for convalescent patients.
Currently imSS in the State of Mexico Westeros works in a way to get to the new normal and thus reactivate the medical services and social benefits that were diminished by the health emergency, such as surgical days and the external consultation of specialties, Aguilar Patraca said.
At the time, the representative of IMSS in State of Mexico Oriente, Misael Ley Mejía stated that the pandemic did not go over the capacity to respond, since in an organized and timely manner 1,362 beds of the 1,802 available beds, i.e. 74%, were converted to care for patients with COVID-19.
Ley Mejía explained that the conversion was carried out progressively according to the increase in the number of cases, with two hospitals intended entirely for COVID-19, in Tlalnepantla and Ecatepec, as well as eight hybrid hospitals.
“We have made the zero policy reject our flag, thanks to timely comprehensive planning from the general direction and policy areas, which ensured attention to anyone who needed it,” he emphasized.
During the Robledo report, he recognized imSS representatives in the State of Mexico Westeros and the East for their loyalty to the institution, for participating in the transformation process in the health system, “the leadership they exercised did so in a very intelligent way” by listening to and understanding Mexican society.
