translated from Spanish: Honduran company denies fake doses of Sputnik to be sold

Grupo Karim’s, a company of Honduran origin, discarded the option that the batch of fake Sputnik V vaccines, seized last week at Campeche International Airport, should be destined to enter illegally or to be marketed.
“At no time and under any circumstances did Grupo Karim’s intend to illegally introduce vaccines into the national territory, being absolutely aware that their entry must be fully fulfilled by administrative processes,” he said through a statement.
He clarified that the 5 thousand 775 doses were to be applied to workers and their families, free of charge, but not to be sold in Honduran territory.
“Many of our families at Grupo Karim’s have suffered a severe blow since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, with the best of intentions, alternatives were sought for the acquisition of vaccines in order to safeguard the lives of our employees and families.”

Similarly, the textile company brazenly found that its executives have been charged with any crime.
It added that it had never participated in or been awarded public tendering processes, as the company was handled with private investment and had been developed for the export of goods and services.
“We call for an example of the union of efforts between the private sector and the government, as has happened in Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, and soon Brazil and Colombia,” he concluded.
The doses arrested on March 18 were stored in two ice-packs, hidden between treats and soft drinks, the Tax Administration Service (SAT) reported in a statement.

These more than 5,000 doses were, in turn, stored in a thousand 155 bottles, which were cautiously sewn up and a research folder was immediately opened.
In addition, after an analysis of the photographs of the seized batch, Russia, the country from which the Sputnik V vaccine comes, clarified that the doses were false.
“The design of packaging and labels suggests that it is a fake substance that has nothing to do with the original vaccine,” he said.
Until the day of its decommision, it had been reported that the Russian Ministry of Health and government entities would cooperate with Mexican authorities in this investigation and analysis of the content of the fake vaccine.
