translated from Spanish: Victoria’s ex-partner, woman killed by policemen in Tulum arrested

Quintana Roo governor Carlos Joaquín González released the arrest of former Victoria Esperanza Salazar Arriaza, a Salvadoran woman killed by Tulum policemen, for the gender-based violence she allegedly exerted on her.
“This lady’s partner, who generated or abused her and one of the daughters, could be arrested,” the governor said in a liaison.

“The Public Prosecutor’s Office will be commenting on this situation where it will give more details but justice has also been generated in this regard,” the representative said.

Victoria Esperanza Salazar Arriaza, 36, left Sonsonate, El Salvador, seeking protection in 2016. With her were her daughters, who were then 11 and 10 years old, respectively.
All three arrived in Tapachula, Chiapas, where they applied for asylum before the Mexican Refugee Aid Commission (Comar) on September 4, 2017, a year after leaving their country. The paperwork was lengthened by two and a half months and on 17 November of that same year, the woman became a refugee on gender grounds.
There is only evidence of Victoria Esperanza asking for protection because of her status as a woman. His family, who made various statements to Salvadoran media, said he did not know the details of why he escaped from his country, but this detail points to a possible case of sexist violence.
