translated from Spanish: Garcia Luna hearing defers 60 days for evidence review

The hearing of former Security Secretary Genaro García Luna will be postponed for two months at the request of his lawyers and New York District Court prosecutors.
In a letter sent to Judge Brian Cogan, who is in charge of the case, García Luna’s legal representatives seek adjournment for the complications they have had in preparing the case before the COVID pandemic.
The hearing was scheduled for April 19.
García Luna’s defense argues that they have struggled mainly to interview potential witnesses in prison.

They also point out that COVID health restrictions imposed in the US have caused difficulties for meetings between the lawyer and García Luna.
For their part, prosecutors indicate that they continue to collect and review new evidence that will help build new evidence.
“On March 1, 2021, he made a new finding of more than 32 sheets of documents,” reads in the letter.
They mention the discovery of recordings that will serve to check drug trafficking and money laundering charges against the former man.
“The government is also waiting to respond to other requests for more information and foreign evidence it has requested,” prosecutors add.
So far, the US government has more than a million pages of documents and recordings of intercepted calls.
