According to data provided by the Department of Health Statistics and Information (DEIS), more than one million people 50 years of age and older have not been vaccinated against Covid-19 in Chile despite being convened.
When the mass vaccination campaign began in February, 5.8 million Chileans in that section have been summoned under the age criterion. However, as of this Thursday night, 1,002,549 had not yet received the first dose. That is, about 17% of this group is categorized as “lagging.”
In conversation with Radio Cooperativa, Dr. Mauricio Canals, physician and member of the ICovid Chile team, asked to bring the mass vaccination process closer together, as in busy places: “If you have enough logistics, create vaccination centers in the field: to be able to go to companies to vaccinate or that there be a vaccination near the Metro, for the person who is working and says : ‘I don’t have time, I have to ask permission or I’m not that convinced.'”
Dr. Ignacio Silva, infectologist and academic at the University of Santiago, added to the medium that “it is tremendously important to achieve the highest possible percentage of people vaccinated over the age of 50, because it is precisely they who are most at risk of complications or hospitalization by Covid-19”.
