Morelia, Michoacán.- Morelia is the municipality where the most forest fires have been recorded up to what goes through the year, with 47 claims and 696 hectares affected, according to information provided by the Michoacán Forestry Commission (Cofom).
After Morelia, Ciudad Hidalgo takes second place, with 36, Uruapan with 25, Coeneo with 22, Cherán with 21 fires, Paracho 18, Pátzcuaro 15, as well as 13 claims in Erongarícuaro and Salvador Escalante, and 12 in Ario de Rosales.
As for affected area, Morelia has reported 696 hectares, Coalcomán 607, Hidalgo 536, Chilchota 499 and Cotija 337, to name a few.

The State Forestry Commission noted that in the historical comparison, 3,182 hectares affected by 265 forest fires were reported in 2020, in 2019 there were 355 claims affecting 5 thousand 196 hectares; while the highest record of the last 10 years, is in 2013, when 9 thousand 657 hectares were affected with 673 fires.
At the national level, Michoacán is third in the number of fires and eighth site in affected area, as there have been 3,735 forest claims in the country with an impact of 127 thousand 111 hectares at the last cut.
