Every 22 May, International Biodiversity Day is celebrated in order to most ephemeris, which is to raise awareness and visibility on this issue as the health of the planet is essential to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Biodiversity, as the word well announces, is the variety of living beings that exist on the planet and the relationships that establish with each other and with the environment around them. It is also the result of millions of years of evolution.
This date was chosen to coincide with the anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on Biological Diversity, signed in 1992.The Convention is the first comprehensive agreement to address all aspects of biodiversity: genetic resources, species and ecosystems, and the first to recognize that the conservation of biological diversity is “a common concern of humanity” , and an integral part of the development process.
This contract is made up of 195 states and the European Union that fight to preserve the different species and ways of life. Therefore, maintaining and using biodiversity sustainably is a way to preserve the stability of ecosystems from which we obtain essential services for human development. Hence its importance.
