translated from Spanish: Mexico will receive one million vaccines from Johnson & Johnson from the U.S., AMLO announces

Mexico will receive one million single-dose COVID vaccines from the pharmaceutical company Johnson &Johnson from the United States, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said.
In a brief message, the president announced that the dose figure was confirmed by U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris.

“We spoke with Vice President Kamala Harris. He was kind enough to inform us, prior to the announcement they made in the United States, of the decision to send us one million Single-Dose Johnson & Johnson vaccines. I expressed our gratitude to him on behalf of the people of Mexico,” López Obrador wrote.

On Thursday, the US government reported that it will donate 80 million vaccines against COVID to countries around the world, of which 75% will be distributed through the Covax program in regions such as Latin America.
“We share these doses, not to get favors or make concessions. We share these vaccines to save lives and lead the world to end the pandemic with the power of our example and our values,” said US President Joe Biden.

Meanwhile, the White House explained that in the vaccines that will be distributed through the Covax mechanism, Washington will prioritize countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, South and Southeast Asia and Africa.
Of the first 25 million doses to be distributed, 6 million will be for South and Central America (Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru, Guatemala and Haiti), 7 million for Asia and 5 million for Africa. The remaining 6 million will go directly to “partners” such as Mexico, Canada, Egypt, Iraq or Yemen.
In his morning conference on Thursday, President López Obrador said that in the coming days there would be important announcements about the arrival of more vaccines.
The president maintained his commitment to finish vaccinating the entire population over the age of 18 next October.
