In a press release, the Chilean Navy reported that in response to the appointment of Vice Admiral Juan Andrés de la Maza Larraín as the institution’s new Commander-in-Chief, President Sebastián Piñera approved new changes in the Naval High Command.
Among the changes approved by President Piñera, Vice Admiral Yerko Marcic Conley will take over as chief of staff of the Navy. In addition, Vice Admiral Alberto Soto Valenzuela will be the new Commander of Naval Operations.
Cristián Araya, meanwhile, will be the new auditor general, while Carlos Huber Vio will assume as general director of the Maritime Territory and the National Merchant Marine.
Other changes that were approved are: Rear Admiral Ronald Baasch Barberis is the director of Joint Planning for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Rear Admiral Raul Zamorano Goñi is the secretary general of the institution, and the commander of the Naval Aviation will be Captain Claudio Maldonado Naveas.
On the other hand, the general officers who are retiring are Vice Admirals Ignacio Mardones Costa, Ricardo Marcos Vivanco, and Marcelo Gomez Garcia.
