translated from Spanish: Ministry of Justice confirms Sergio Mierzejewski as new national director of the Civil Registry

This Friday, the Minister of Justice, Hernán Larraín, together with the Undersecretary of Justice, Sebastián Valenzuela, held a working and coordination meeting with the new director of the Civil Registry, Sergio Mierzejewski, who was appointed by President Sebastián Piñera after the respective contest of Senior Public Management.
On the occasion, the ministerial authorities defined the guidelines and priorities to be implemented by Mierzejewski for this period, focused mainly on the modernization of the service, on strengthening and facilitating access for users to the multiple procedures that are delivered, among other measures.
In this sense, Minister Larraín, along with highlighting the designation, said that “the Civil Registry is going through a very relevant moment in its institutional history, where its institutional modernization is at stake, aimed at becoming a service that effectively facilitates people’s lives, incorporating technologies and innovation as axes of its work”
Likewise, the ministerial authority detailed the tasks entrusted to the new director: “We have entrusted him in a concrete way, the following specific tasks, referring to: “Strengthen the attention to the user throughout the territory, especially in times of pandemic, ensuring the continuity of the service; Ensure maximum rigor, seriousness and transparency in the definition of the ongoing bidding process that advances in the establishment of a new identity service (identity cards and passports), guaranteeing the best technical offer at the lowest cost; Continue the modernization of the service to make life easier for users, promoting innovation and technology, favoring virtual care, establishing a digital identity system and increasing the interoperability of registries with other computer systems of the State”
It will also be a task of the new director “to significantly improve the security of the data and information that is under the care and custody of the service; Deepen probity in the institution, including training, controls, reporting channels and greater transparency; and To advance in a constant improvement of the working conditions of its personnel, with the due participation of its guilds”.
For his part, the new director expressed his gratitude to the “President and the minister for the trust placed in him. I have a very clear mandate, which is to strengthen the attention of the offices, especially in this time of pandemic; to ensure the transparency that we must have in the tender that we are carrying very important of identification; continue with the modernization and digital transformation plan that is keeping track; also significantly improve data security and the interoperability we have with other institutions; deepen the probity that we must have as a Public Service; and, finally, to work together with the officials to have a better working environment and give better attention to the citizenry.”
Sergio Mierzejewski is an engineer in Information and Management Control from the University of Chile, he has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Adolfo Ibáñez University. In his professional career he has worked as a Manager of Operations and Technology, in various institutions of the private sector.
Sergio Mierzejewski joined the Civil Registry and Identification Service on November 21, 2018 as deputy director of Studies and Development (S) and on October 16, 2020 he took over as national director(s).
