The arrest followed an anonymous call that reported an unusual movement of people who were keeping few health precautions in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic in a popular neighborhood of Puebla.
All were handed over to officials of the National Migration Institute (INM) for possible deportation.
On the other hand, the INM deported by air 89 Cuban migrants, of whom 20 are women and 69 men “who did not prove regular stay in Mexico,” the agency reported.
“This action was carried out in coordination with consular authorities of that country and with respect for human rights,” the INM said.
Following the arrival of Democrat Joe Biden as president of the United States, the number of migrants attempting to cross illegally from Mexico, many of them minors, has multiplied.
In April alone, 17,171 unaccompanied minors were found at the southern border of the United States, according to figures from that government.
Meanwhile, from January to May, 22,267 migrants were detained in Mexico, Defense Secretary Luis Cresencio Sandoval reported on May 21.
To contain illegal migration, the Mexican government has deployed 27,562 armed forces personnel on its southern and northern borders, the head of sedena said.
