The Olympic Committee of Chile reported through a statement that the participation of athlete Arley Méndez in the Olympic Games in Tokyo was suspended, after testing positive for cannabis in an anti-doping control.
The body indicated that Méndez “was notified by the International Testing Agency (ITA) of a doping control with ‘Adverse Analytical Result’, testing positive for cannabis during a qualifying tournament held in Colombia.”
The athlete has a period of five days to make a formal appeal. His participation was suspended until the ITA’s response to his allegation was known.
“The Chilean Olympic Committee strongly condemns the use of substances prohibited in the World Anti-Doping Code or any other action aimed at violating Fair Play and fair competition,” they concluded.
