Since the Covid-19 crisis began, Pucón has faced three quarantines and has been closed for more than 100 days in addition to the country’s initial months of confinement, despite the fact that tourism is the main source of income for its inhabitants.
While in winter holidays there are several tourist areas that will be in phase three such as Coquimbo-La Serena, Viña del Mar-Concón, Concepción, among others, Pucón is in quarantine.
That is why a series of meetings have been held between private and local authorities to end confinement, including on weekends.
“The impression all puconinos have is that quarantine is unnecessary, with 86% of the vaccinated population no longer justified,” said Pucón Mayor Carlos Barra.
“It’s criminal to have restaurants closed at this minute and they can’t require us to work on the terrace because the weather doesn’t allow it. Let’s have stricter protocols inside restaurants, but let us work.”
They also stressed that the protocols for the operation of tourism are defined and that most infections occur inside homes and not, precisely, in restaurants or hotels.
