On Monday, the long-awaited in-person return to classes was scheduled, a campaign led by the Ministry of Education. Although the return was voluntary in the schools authorized for this return, in the portfolio led by Raul Figueroa they expected a large number of establishments to join this return.
According to the balance of the Education portfolio cited by the newspaper La Tercera, there were a total of 15,396 schools that were available for this return in the second semester, and only 6,438 establishments did so. In the Mineduc they clarify that of that total, 2,231 are kept in winter vacation.
That is to say, and without considering the regions of Biobío, Los Lagos, Aysén and Magallanes that are still on vacation, the total number of establishments that could open (13,165), 48.9% did so. That’s almost half.
“After a well-deserved winter break, the second semester is beginning, and with it, the possibility of meeting again in the classroom. The educational community has made an enormous effort throughout this period to carry out a process of distance education (…), but no more efforts are made, recovering face-to-face is fundamental for the well-being of all children and young people, “said Minister Figueroa.
In Education they project that within two weeks a figure close to 10,000 establishments will open their doors.
