After the loss to Brazil that left The Gladiators with no chance of qualifying for the next round of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Sebastian Simonet, one of the emblems of the national handball team, announced that the match against Spain next Sunday will be the last of his career.
“It’s fucked up to enjoy after a game like that but I’m proud of myself, my teammates, of what I did and hopefully what I do in the next game, which is going to be my last. I’m happy about my career, what I gave the team, that he was always before me,” he said visibly excited in a conversation with TyC Sports. In addition to being proud to have shared Tokyo 2020 with his brothers Diego and Pablo, the three-time Olympian said that “it’s a finishing touch to be here.” On the other hand, the eldest of the Simonet brothers highlighted the greatness of the team to achieve great achievements for the national handball in recent years, despite the difficulties they face. “If you look at the reality of Argentine handball, where we play, where we train and what happened these two years, you say, ‘It’s a miracle that this team is here.'”
