translated from Spanish: Slim will repair the entire elevated section of Line 12 at no cost to the treasury: AMLO

Grupo Carso, Carlos Slim’s company, agreed to repair, at no cost to the treasury, the entire elevated section of Metro Line 12, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced.
In a press conference, he said that the company ICA also expressed its agreement to help, although he said that for now he does not yet know in what terms the support will be.
“The companies have accepted, in the case of Carso, which is Carlos Slim’s company, he accepted that he is going to repair the entire line, at no cost to the treasury. The whole stretch that corresponds to him, which is the upper part, where this misfortune took place, he is going to repair it without costing the treasury.

“Engineer Carlos Slim rose to the occasion and accepted the proposal that we made to him, that was formulated to him, that he take charge of the complete repair,” he said.

He reiterated that in a year the entire line, which goes from Mixcoac to Tláhuac, will be rehabilitated and functioning.

“That line moves, I think about 400 thousand passengers a day and it is the poorest in the city who use this transport, and we do not want it to happen all the time.  Now it is suffering a lot to move, we want the Metro line to be rehabilitated and put into operation,” he said.

Lopez Obrador said that in a fortnight or a month a report on the line 12 accident could be filed.
He pointed out that the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, is the one who is attending to the whole metro issue.

On the night of Monday, May 3, Line 12 collapsed between Olivos and Tezonco stations; a part of the elevated viaduct fell as a train – which was heading to the Tláhuac terminal – passed at that point.
To date, 26 people – one a minor among them – have been reported killed and 106 injured.
